Attending the Phantom Gourmet BBQ beach party last weekend didn’t *really* go as planned.  

First of all, my intention was to go Friday at lunchtime, however the weather wasn’t cooperative at all at a scorching 98 degrees that day on City Hall Plaza with no shade.  Then, I planned to go Friday at dinner time. Once again, plans thwarted as a huge monsoon-like thunderstorm rolled through the Boston area.  Strike two :( However, my plans in Boston ended up with me hanging around longer than usual & when we stopped by the BBQ beach party around 8:30, it was still going on & the rain miraculously stopped!  Woo hoo!  

So, long story short…MDH & I ended up getting rib samplers from each of the 6 out of town pitmasters to take home (since the threat of rain could have returned any minute).  We then proceeded with a very scientific (i.e. we put them in order) taste testing.  Although the eventual winner ended up being Big Show BBQ from Kansas City, our personal favorite…hands down…was Johnson’s Bar-B-Que of Chesapeake, Virginia!  We really enjoyed tasting all the saucy & smoked porkiness from different areas of the country…even out of the country with Aussom Aussie from “a land down under.”  However, hopefully next year we’ll be able to hang around & actually enjoy the “beach party” part of the whole event….hahaha!
